Thomas O'Brien

Born1847, County Cork, Ireland

Died1912, Boston, Massachusetts

Thomas O'Brien was born in the spring of 1847, in a small tenant cottage outside Skibbereen, County Cork. He entered the world just as the Great Famine was tightening its grip on Ireland. By the time he was three, over a million of his countrymen had perished, and another million had fled across the Atlantic.

In 1862, at just fifteen years old, Thomas joined that exodus. He boarded the coffin ship "Lady Margaret" at Cobh, carrying nothing but a wool coat and his mother's rosary beads. Your ancestors were more than names on a family tree.

They were real people who lived, loved, worked, and dreamed. They survived hardships we can barely imagine, made choices that rippled through generations, and shaped the person you are today.

But too often, their stories are reduced to a list of dates and places – birth, marriage, death – stripped of all the texture and humanity that made them who they were.

mykinstory exists to change that.

We combine historical records with AI storytelling to bring your ancestors back to life – not as data points, but as people. People with hopes and fears. People with stories worth telling.

Because understanding where you come from
helps you understand who you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about mykinstory

You provide details about an ancestor – name, dates, places – and we search historical records to uncover the facts of their life. Then we use AI to weave those facts into a compelling narrative biography, complete with historical context and period-appropriate imagery.

We primarily use FamilySearch, the world's largest free genealogy database, which contains billions of historical records including births, marriages, deaths, census records, and more.

No. Every fact in your ancestor's story comes from historical records. The AI helps us present those facts as a readable narrative and provides historical context about the times they lived in. We never invent biographical details.

We generate period-appropriate imagery showing the world your ancestors lived in – their villages, workplaces, ships they sailed on, churches they attended. We don't create fake portraits or photographs of ancestors themselves.
